Five Worst US Cities for Podiatrists during the COVID Pandemic

The COVID Pandemic has ravaged American cities and states as well as Podiatrists. Podiatrists are struggling to survive but like everything with the Coronavirus some areas are being hit harder than others. The fact is there are geographic areas and cities where Podiatrists are going to be devastated by the Coronavirus shutdown. Below I have listed what I believe are the five worst cities for Podiatrists during the COVID shutdown.

5. Any College town– Regardless of location in the United States, if you are a Podiatrist where the predominant business in the area is a college (think Charlottesville, Gainesville, Pullman WA, Ann Arbor Mi), the COVID Pandemic is a direct threat to your practice. It’s not even the shutdown. The fact is colleges and university are unstable business right now. They do not posses stable finances right now and if colleges do not open up in the fall you could be looking at those cities having an almost Depression-like economy. Even if the shutdown is lifted, if the colleges and university are not in session Podiatry practices will be hard pressed to survive in those towns.

4. Los Angeles– Los Angeles is currently being hard hit by COVID 19. The other issue here is their governor, Gavin Newsome, who has fallen in love with the lockdown philosophy. It’s honestly hard to see LA opening up before July 1st. How a Podiatrist will survive until then is hard to see. Most of the other cities on the west coast should actually be okay for Podiatry practices. But Los Angeles is probably in the worst position right now.

3. Boston, MA– Here is the problem with Boston: its cold, high population density and is starting to see spikes in COVID cases. It’s a horrible storm going on for Podiatry practices in this area. It’s hard to see Podiatry practices being able to fully reopen until July. And even when they do reopen there will be a fear of a second spike.

2. New York City– People reading this are probably like how is New York City not number one. Well its simple. In NYC the worst is over. They probably have more immune people than most other cities and areas. But if New York City can get out of it they may be an area most set up for Herd Immunity. Listen, it’s bad in New York City but at least the finances of the city are more terrible than the area I put number 1. New York is not broke and may be able to weather the recession.

1. New Jersey– New Jersey is screwed. They are getting destroyed by the virus and the state is broke. I have no idea how they get out of it. Combine that with all the Podiatrists that live there. New Jersey has more Podiatrist per 1,000 people than any other state in the country. Suffice it to say if you are a Podiatrist in New Jersey you are going to have trouble surviving.
