Four Ways a Podiatry Practice can Survive a Coronavirus Shutdown

The Coronavirus has hurt Podiatry practices all over the country. This has made it difficult for Podiatrists and their practice to be able to survive. No more elective surgery, older patients not traveling to see doctors. All these conditions have resulted in Podiatry practices essentially becoming shut down and ghost towns. How are you going to survive and retain an income under such stress? Below I have outlined Four Steps Podiatry practices can make to survive the Coronavirus shutdown:

1) Lay off your staff. Again this doesn’t have to be permanent. This will allow the government to pay your staff via unemployment. By the way I would do this sooner rather than later. Many states are allowing employees to start collecting unemployment earlier. There is no reason to wait. You are not “all of a sudden” going to get an influx of patients. Tell your staff the minute that patients start coming back that you will hire them back. You want to instruct your staff that you want them back; make them feel wanted. The government is allowing you an out. Take it.

2) Telemedicine is a way to see Patients and Bill them without them being in the room. This can be very successful if done correctly. Here is a good link explaining it:

3) Short term loans again the Fed has interest at zero. There are bridge loans available right now from multiple companies. Consider contacting them to get you through the next couple of months. If you have good credit and stable income prior this can be done with little issues.

4) Home Visits. It’s probably not the craziest thing in the world. You can even bring staff with you. Just make sure you are sanitizing and using proper precautions while doing this.
